Overlooked the difference a simple lens cleaning makes for two years until I did a side by side
Scratched up my Nikon's front element with a dirty cloth back in 2021 and just lived with the hazy shots until last week when I picked up a proper lens cleaning kit from a shop in Portland. The clarity change on those old black and white negatives is night and day - has anyone else put off cleaning their glass that long and regretted it?

The real test is scanning. I bet the haze was hiding dust spots.

Wait, hold on. You're saying the haze was actually hiding dust spots? That's wild to me. I would have never thought of that. In my experience, haze usually just messes with sharpness and contrast, not actual sensor gunk. But I guess if the haze is really heavy and diffuse, it could mask small spots like that. Your mileage may vary of course, but I've had dust spots show up clear as day even in low light foggy shots. That's a smart observation though, I need to check my scans more carefully now.
