Overheard a guy at a camera swap saying you can fix light leaks with black electrical tape

I slapped a strip of black electrical tape along the hinge of my beat-up Pentax K1000 last night and honestly it worked better than the $15 foam kit I bought from that shop in Portland, has anyone else found a janky fix that actually held up?

My buddy swore by the tape trick for years and I called him lazy til I tried it on a beat-up Canonet and it sealed the door perfect. @aarons36 you're dead right about those foam kits being overpriced junk.

Swapped out a broken light meter on an old Minolta with a sewing needle and a piece of foam from an old couch cushion. Still works three years later. That black tape trick is legit though, I've got a strip holding the back of a Yashica together right now. The foam kits are overpriced and never fit right anyway. Half the time you just need something that blocks light, not some fancy precut square. For cracks in plastic bodies I've used superglue mixed with baking soda to fill gaps. Looks ugly but it seals like iron.
