My grandfather's 1957 Kodak Retina finally snapped back to life after 6 weeks of soaking the shutter
Back in March I found his old Retina in a shoebox in my mom's garage in Akron, and the shutter was stuck wide open so every roll came out blank. I spent 6 weekends dripping naphtha into the leaf shutter, working the lever about 200 times, and last Tuesday it finally fired clean at all speeds, which felt like way more of a win than it probably sounds. Has anyone else brought a frozen leaf shutter back from the dead, or do you just send those off to a repair shop and save yourself the trouble?
