Gave up on respooling my own 35mm and just bought a bulk loader instead

Spent 3 hours in my garage with a changing bag trying to respool 100 feet of HP5 onto salvaged cassettes, scratched about 40 feet of it, and finally ordered a Watson loader for $45. Best money I ever spent, but now I'm wondering if anyone actually gets clean rolls hand rolling without one.
