Finally gave up on cotton swabs for cleaning my camera mirror after reading about scratched coatings on 3 separate threads last night.

I used a sensor cleaning swab kit I got for $15 on Amazon instead and got all the dust off my Pentax K1000 mirror in under 2 minutes without any streaks. Has anyone else switched away from the q-tip method for mirror cleaning?

Watched that same repair guy video @loganhart, now my Pentax K1000 feels neglected when I pull out the sensor swab for its mirror. Took me longer to find the swab kit in my junk drawer than to actually clean the thing. Guess my clumsy fingers are safer with a $15 kit than a q-tip and my shaky morning coffee hands.

Saw a YouTube video from a camera repair guy who said the same thing. He peeled the coating off a test mirror with a q-tip in like 5 seconds just to prove the point. Those sensor swab kits are cheap insurance compared to messing up a vintage lens or mirror. My Nikon FM2n gets the same treatment now, just a couple passes with the dry swab and done.
