Update: my paterson tank lid cracked mid develop and I finished the roll in a dark bathroom with a red bike light
So last Thursday I finally got around to developing two rolls from a trip to Duluth, and about a minute into the first pour I heard a pop. The lid on my Paterson tank had a hairline crack I never noticed, and fixer started weeping out the side onto the counter. I panicked, killed the lights, and finished the whole thing in the dark by feel, using an old red bike light taped to the towel rack as my only guide. Somehow I got the film onto the reel, poured everything by counting seconds in my head, and the negs came out fine, maybe even better than my usual ones. Thing is, my grandfather used to develop in a closet with a kerosene lamp and a tin can, and I always figured that was just old guy storytelling. Standing there in the dark with fixer on my socks, I got it. Anyway, the tank is done for, so now I'm weighing options. Stick with another plastic tank or finally spring for a steel setup? Anyone been through this exact swap and regret it?
