Took my old Pentax K1000 to the county fair and got weird looks from everyone

I went to the Rockingham County Fair last Saturday with my trusty K1000 and a roll of Fuji 400. I figured I'd get some shots of the livestock and the Ferris wheel at sunset. But every kid there was pulling out their phones to take pictures, and one teenager actually asked me if I was using a "vintage prop" for a school project. Then a dad walked up and said his grandpa had one just like it, and he spent 10 minutes telling me about his grandpa's darkroom setup. I managed to snap a few frames of the pig races before the light got bad. Has anyone else had people act like your camera is some kind of antique relic?

My buddy Tom brought his Nikon FM2 to a car show up in Concord last fall and some guy asked if it was a vintage prop for a retro photo booth. Then a woman walked over and said she used to shoot weddings with that exact body back in 85. Tom let her hold it for a minute and she got all misty-eyed. @nancy275 your farmers market story sounds just like that, people really think we're cosplaying or something. He still got some killer shots of a 69 Camaro before some kid asked him to take a pic with his iPhone instead.

Oh yeah, I brought my old Minolta to a farmers market and got asked if it was a toy.
