DAE shoot a roll of film and realize your phone made you lazy about framing?
Last Saturday I took my Canon AE-1 to the riverwalk in San Antonio and shot one roll of Portra 400, just 36 frames. About halfway through I noticed I was standing in one spot and barely moving my feet, which is exactly what I do with my phone all day. With the phone I just take 9 shots and pick one, but with film each click costs me about a dollar after developing at the lab on Blanco. So I started walking and crouching and waiting for a bicyclist to clear the frame, and I burned through the last 12 shots in maybe 10 minutes. When I got the scans back Thursday, 8 of those 12 were keepers, way better than my usual hit rate. Has anyone else caught themselves shooting film like a phone and had to snap out of it?

Noticed the same thing happens with the zoom ring too. On my phone I pinch and swipe without even thinking, but with the AE-1 I had to physically twist that lens and it slowed me way down. Last month at the Pearl I caught myself zooming with my feet instead, just stepping closer to a bench and a dog, and the shot turned out way more alive than anything my phone ever gave me. The weird part is the phone trained my eyes to see a whole scene at once, like a wide safety net, but film forces you to pick one thing and commit. That commit part is what makes the keepers.
