Unpopular opinion: most installers put motion sensors way too high

I work commercial jobs in Charlotte and every third system I service has the motion sensor mounted at 8 feet or above. Problem is, a lot of these warehouses have shelving that goes up to 7 feet. The sensor just looks over the top of it and misses whole aisles. I had one last week where the customer complained about false alarms from a rat but the sensor never caught a person walking between two racks. If you mount at 6.5 feet and angle it down you cover the whole floor. Why do guys keep sticking them near the ceiling?

I did a install last month where they had the sensor at 9 feet and it completely missed a whole aisle.

Yeah @nathanbennett, same here. It's ridiculous how often that happens.

People keep thinking higher placement means better coverage, but physics doesn't work that way. @nathanbennett probably could've told them that before they drilled the holes.
