My client in Springfield mentioned his neighbor's system failed because the backup battery was from 2018.
It made me check my own service van stock and I found three expired batteries I was about to install, so has anyone else set a calendar alert for checking their own supply dates?

Forget the calendar alerts, that's just making extra work for yourself. Honestly, if a battery still holds a charge when you test it before the job, what's the real problem? Stock rotates itself out naturally through regular use anyway. Spending time checking dates and putting stickers on everything feels like busywork when you could just trust your own basic checks. Maybe that neighbor's failure was a bad unit, not an old one.

Glad you caught those. I started putting a bright orange sticker with the month and year right on the battery itself when it comes in. That way it's staring you in the face in the van. I also clear out the supply shelf every January and July, just a quick visual check. It's too easy to grab the one in the back that's been sitting there for years.
