My 500th panel swap snuck up on me, and the number that actually shocked me was 3
I finished a takeover job in a 1970s split level outside of Boise on a Tuesday and did the math later that night, and it turned out that was my 500th panel change since I started keeping a log in 2016. The milestone itself did not hit me. What hit me was looking back and finding only 3 of those 500 jobs had a callback that was actually my fault, and two of those were on the same model of can with those cheap push terminals that I quit using years ago. I always figured my real out of 500 was way higher. I would have guessed 15 or 20 easy. So either I have been lying to myself about how careful I am, or installers beat themselves up way more than the work deserves. Here is the part that bugs me though, and I want honest answers. Every guy I know who is worth a damn swears they made a pile of mistakes starting out, and most of them cannot name one job where it blew up on them. So was it luck, or do we just remember the scary calls and forget the clean ones? Curious what your real callback ratio looks like, because I am starting to think the horror stories are louder than the truth.
