My 20 year old keypad finally quit on a Tuesday service call, and the fix was embarrassing
Client in Mesa called at 9am saying her keypad kept beeping and would not take her code. I figured dead keypad or bad wire, so I pulled a new 22/4 run and swapped in a spare I had in the van. Still nothing. Turned out the panel battery was so dead it was dragging the whole keypad bus down to 6 volts, and a $24 battery fixed what I was about to charge her $180 in labor for. I stood in that hallway for 40 minutes chasing ghosts when I should have checked the battery first. Anyone else get so deep in the wiring that you skip the dumb stuff?
