Just realized I was mounting motion sensors way too high for years
An old guard installer from Phoenix pointed out that I was putting my motion sensors at 8 feet when most residential panels expect detection at 5-6 feet for pets. He showed me how the coverage pattern changes and I was basically missing half the room. Switched to 6.5 feet on my last 4 jobs and the false alarm calls dropped by like 70 percent. Has anyone else had to unlearn a habit from the old alarm school days?

I used to crank them up to 8 feet too (eight feet, seriously) because I thought higher meant better coverage. But then a guy at a training class showed me the actual sensor pattern, and I felt like a dummy. Switched to 6.5 feet like you and the false alarms from my customers' cats basically vanished. It was a hard habit to break, but the data doesn't lie.

Man, that training class thing is exactly what got my buddy Mike to finally lower his too. He was pissed at first but now he swears by it.
