DAE see installers skip the door contact gap check on metal frames, or is it just my area?
I did a panel swap in a strip mall off Route 9 in Jersey three weeks ago and found six door contacts on hollow metal frames with no gap at all, screwed flat so the reed would never open. The previous guy pulled the wire clean and labeled everything, so he knew his trade, but those doors had been arming with the contact closed the entire time. I spent 40 minutes with a shim and a reamer opening gaps to an eighth of an inch and every one tested right after. Is this a regional shortcut where you all work, or do I just keep landing the jobs behind the same guy?

Is that the same reason you see guys caulk over rotten trim instead of fixing the wood? People cut corners when nobody checks their work, and they keep doing it until the next guy has to clean it up. Same story in every trade, the shortcut only shows up for whoever comes after.
