A lead tech in Fort Worth grilled me for using 22/4 on every keypad run, and he was right
For years I pulled 22/4 to every keypad because that's how I was trained, even when the panel only needed power and a data pair. A lead tech on a 40 zone commercial job in Fort Worth watched me do it and asked why I was wasting my labor on 500 feet of wire that only needed two conductors. I pushed back at first, but he walked me through the voltage drop math on a long run and showed me where the extra pairs just sat there doing nothing. Now I run 22/2 for power only keypads and keep 22/4 for the ones that actually need it, which cut my rough-in time on that job by about 3 hours. He also pointed out that extra copper in the box makes it harder to tuck everything back clean when you're finishing. What are you all pulling for standard keypad runs these days, and has anyone had a panel that needed the fourth conductor later?
