Working a night shift on a 737 in Seattle, I found a stripped bolt on the flap track that three other guys had signed off on. My old torque wrench was reading 20 foot-pounds low.

My neighbor's deck collapsed because his impact driver stripped every lag bolt.

Wait, do you really think the torque wrench being wrong changes the situation that much? Because to me, the bigger problem is that three other guys signed off on a stripped bolt without catching it. Even if your wrench was reading 20 low, a stripped bolt should've been obvious by feel or visual check before you even got there. That's like blaming your tape measure because you built a crooked wall. The real issue is nobody bothered to look close enough until you came along.
