Took me 5 years to figure out I was cleaning spark plugs wrong

I always used a wire brush on spark plugs until a guy from the hangar next door saw me doing it last month. He said I was probably scratching the ceramic and making them fail sooner. He showed me how to use a sand blaster on low pressure instead. Has anyone else been doing this the hard way too?

Five years is a long time for a frustrating lesson, I really feel your pain on that one.

Grabbed a brass brush years ago and thought I was being gentle, @tylerw92 did the same thing you did. Never even considered a sand blaster until a friend from a body shop showed me his trick with walnut shells instead. Now I just buy new plugs every couple years and skip the cleaning mess entirely.

Switched to a brass brush after ruining a set on my old truck.
