TIL I spent 6 years torquing fuel line B-nuts to the book spec until an old hand at the shop in Wichita watched me do it and asked why I hated my flare fittings
He said the guys who taught me were overtorquing on purpose, I had been crushing one in four flares and just calling it a bad batch, so has anyone else found their shop's "standard practice" was quietly wrong the whole time?

That old hand probably saved you a fortune in fittings alone. And it makes you wonder how many other "rules" got passed down just because nobody ever questioned the guy who taught the guy who taught you. Bad habits don't die, they get trained into the next guy.
