Spent 4 hours looking for a missing 10mm socket in a Cessna 172's engine bay
It fell into a tiny gap near the firewall and got stuck behind a bundle of wires, so I had to take half the cowling off just to fish it out with a magnet on a stick. My boss walked by and said 'I hope that socket is getting paid overtime' while I was laying on the creeper. Anyone have a good trick for keeping tools from vanishing in tight spots like that?

You know, I used to roll my eyes at the union talk in these threads (thought it was all a joke), but after watching a coworker's 10mm roll straight into a grease pit and vanish forever, I'm starting to think @lisa_jones21 has a point about contract negotiations. That socket definitely deserves hazard pay for the overtime it's racking up stuck behind your firewall. Maybe we need a union rep at toolbox meetings to negotiate better working conditions for us and our tools.

Honestly, the 10mm socket union is probably filing a grievance for those working conditions. Tbh your boss's joke was better than my pay.

You know, ivan211 might be onto something with the union talk. I bet the real issue is the 10mm's contract doesn't include hazard pay for rolling under heavy equipment. That's a major safety oversight (and why my box has three of them, all hiding).
