Question about the $400 bore scope I bought for inspecting cylinders
I work on Continental engines out of a small hangar near Wichita, and last month I finally bought a $400 bore scope after years of borrowing the shop one. Two days later I caught a pitted exhaust valve on a customer's IO-520 before it could let go, and that find alone paid for the tool. Before that I was pulling cylinders on a hunch, which is a whole afternoon of labor and gaskets. Now I want to know if anyone here has a cheaper camera that still shows valve face detail without the fisheye distortion mine has. What are you running, and how does it hold up when the cylinder is still hot?
