Just read in an FAA advisory that a single loose bolt on a Cessna 172's elevator trim tab can cause a 40% increase in control forces at cruise speed.
Found that buried in a 15-year-old service bulletin while looking up a different rigging issue, and it makes me triple-check every single nut on those assemblies now, anyone else run into stats that made you change a routine?

That line about a single bolt changing control forces really hits home. I see this everywhere now, not just in planes. It's like the whole world is held together by a few small parts we never think about. A tiny stripped wire can take out a whole server rack, one bad sensor can make a car think it's overheating. Makes you wonder what else is hanging on by a thread.

Yeah @vale19, I always check the small stuff twice now... it's saved me a few times.

But "hanging by a thread" feels a bit much. Most stuff is built with backups and safety margins for a reason. That sensor might fail, but the car has other ways to check temp before it just dies. They plan for this. It's not all so fragile.
