I called the dynamic prop balance a scam for 8 years. Then a guy in Tulsa showed me the numbers.
For years I lumped prop balancing in with fuel additives and those magnet things you strap to your fuel line. I figured if your prop was that far out, you pulled it and sent it to the shop, end of story. A guy I share a hangar with in Tulsa kept bugging me about it on a 206 we both work on, and I finally let him run it just to shut him up. The vibration reading before was 0.8 IPS, and after two rounds of adding washers he had it down to 0.09. My hands still felt the difference through the yoke on the next test flight, no lie. Now I want to know where everybody else stands on this. Is it real troubleshooting, or are we all just chasing a number that does not matter for the average owner?
