Finally picked safety wire pliers over twisting by hand on a Cessna 172 and I feel slow

Spent 20 minutes on a set of castle nuts in a hangar in Wichita because the pliers kept slipping until I slowed my pull down. The old timer next to me just watched and said the tool only works if your wrist does half the work. What do you guys do when the pliers keep chewing up the wire?
