Am I the only one who had an old timer tell me to stop using safety wire pliers on everything?
Had a guy named Ray who worked on DC-3s back in the day look over my shoulder while I was safety wiring a fuel pump on a 172 and he said to twist by hand first, then use the pliers just to finish the pigtail. I blew him off for months because the pliers were faster. Then I snapped a wire at the hole on a Beechcraft Baron last Tuesday and had to pull the whole pump off again to fix it right. Ray was right, hand twisting first keeps the tension even and I've only lost maybe 30 seconds per job since I switched. Anyone else do it the slow way or am I just getting old?
