Unpopular opinion: frozen fries beat my homemade ones every time

Honestly, I spent a whole Sunday trying to make fries from scratch, soaking and double frying like they say. Ngl, the bag of Ore-Ida Extra Crispy Fast Food Fries I tossed in for 12 minutes at 400 came out way better. They were just crispier and more consistent. Has anyone else found a frozen brand that really nails it?

But what oil did you use for frying? That can make a huge difference in getting that crisp factor at home.

Honestly used to swear by peanut oil for everything. Then a friend made me try frying in plain old vegetable oil and the results were shockingly good. It got things way crispier than I expected, like restaurant-level crunch. Totally changed my mind about needing fancy oil for good home fries.

Right? The whole "soaking and double frying" thing is such a trap. I did that exact same dance and my fries were either soggy or burnt. My win was finally giving up and just baking frozen ones on a wire rack instead of a sheet pan. The air all around them makes them actually get crispy all over, no flipping needed. It's the only way I do it now.
