Tried tossing my fries in a tiny bit of cornstarch before air frying and they came out way crunchier

I was sick of soggy frozen fries so I dusted them with maybe a teaspoon of cornstarch last night and they were actually crispy like restaurant ones, has anyone else tried this?

Wait, is this like a life changing discovery or just fries? I mean I'm glad they were crunchy but it's still just frozen fries from a bag, right? Like I could see trying it if I had cornstarch sitting around but I'm not about to go buy a whole box just for that. Plus cornstarch is kinda weird stuff, it's like a powder that turns into glue when wet so who knows what's happening in the air fryer. And honestly air fryers already make fries pretty decent in my experience, maybe not restaurant level but close enough for a weeknight. Feels like a lot of extra effort for something that's still just a side dish.

Two things real quick. Cornstarch doesn't turn into glue when it gets wet, that's flour. Cornstarch mixed with water makes a slurry that's more like a thin paste, and when it heats up in the air fryer it basically just crisps up and disappears. Second, you don't need to buy a whole box. Most grocery stores sell it in the baking aisle for like two bucks and you'll use maybe a teaspoon for a whole bag of fries. So you're out maybe twenty cents and 30 seconds of shaking a bag. The difference is actually pretty big, night and day compared to just dumping frozen fries in dry. Makes them taste like they came from a real restaurant fryer instead of chewy limp ones.
