So I tried that frozen french fry trick everyone swears by...
I was at home last Tuesday, trying to get crispy fries from a frozen bag in my air fryer. Every single guide online says to put them in dry, no oil, for 20 minutes at 400 degrees. I did exactly that and ended up with a basket of sad, dry sticks that tasted like cardboard. I think the problem is my model runs a bit hotter than most. The next time, I tossed the fries in just half a teaspoon of oil and dropped the time to 15 minutes. They came out perfect, golden and actually tasted like potatoes. Maybe the 'no oil ever' rule doesn't work for every machine? Has anyone else had to add oil back in to make frozen fries actually good?

Yeah, my old air fryer was like that too. It ran super hot and would burn anything without a tiny bit of oil. I started doing a light spray on frozen onion rings and it made all the difference.
