Ran out of parchment paper for my air fryer and tried aluminum foil instead

My neighbor Dave told me to just use foil instead of parchment paper because 'it's basically the same thing.' So I lined my basket with foil and made chicken wings at 400 degrees. The foil blocked all the airflow on the bottom and the wings came out soggy on one side and burnt on the other. Plus the grease dripped through a hole I poked and smoked up my whole kitchen. Has anyone else had a foil disaster in their air fryer?

Oh man, I did the exact same thing last week and my air fryer almost joined the space program from the smoke cloud alone! Guess we're both learning the hard way that foil is just fancy trash in there.

My buddy Mark swore by foil in his air fryer for months and I almost tried it myself, but after reading about your wings I'm glad I waited. I used to think foil was fine too, honestly, I figured it was just a cheap alternative that everyone overreacted about. But hearing about the grease fire risk and the uneven cooking really changed my mind, that sounds like a nightmare to clean up. Foil just blocks all the hot air circulation which is basically the whole point of an air fryer, so it makes sense now why it failed so badly. Stick with the parchment paper, it's worth the extra dollar fifty not to smoke out your whole kitchen.
