PSA: Check your air fryer basket for loose coating before cooking

I was making frozen chicken wings in my Cosori last night and noticed little black flakes on them halfway through. Turns out the nonstick coating on the basket was peeling off. Had to toss the whole batch and order a replacement basket.

@dianab68 I'd like to know how long you actually used that basket before you noticed the flaking. Because I'm wondering if these coatings just have a shelf life that's way shorter than we expect. I mean I bought my air fryer thinking it would last years not months. The specks in the food are bad enough but the thought of eating that stuff without knowing is what gets me. I ended up buying a whole new air fryer with a ceramic coating instead of just a basket and honestly I'm still watching it like a hawk. How long did it take for yours to go from looking fine to having visible flakes?

My Cosori basket started flaking too after about 8 months of using it maybe 3-4 times a week. I honestly used to think people were being dramatic about the nonstick coating thing like just wash it carefully whatever. But then I pulled out a batch of fries and saw those same little black specks and realized I had probably eaten some before without noticing. Now I switched to a stainless steel basket insert for like 15 bucks and I don't have to worry about it anymore. Better safe than sorry with that stuff I figure.
