I finally stopped spraying oil directly on my air fryer basket

Saw a post last week where someone said their air fryer was smoking every time. I had the same problem for like 6 months. Turns out spraying nonstick spray right on the basket ruins the coating over time. I tried a silicone liner instead and it made a huge difference. Anyone else deal with that sticky gunk that won't wash off?

Damn, I used to be one of those people spraying oil directly on the basket. Thought I was being smart by using less oil. Then I noticed the coating started peeling off after a few months and everything stuck to it. Switched to a silicone liner too and it's night and day, no more scraping crap off the bottom. The gunk buildup was insane, never going back to spraying on the basket.

Switched to a silicone liner too" is interesting because I wondered if those things trap heat or make food less crispy. Did you notice any difference in how your food turned out, or is it just easier cleanup? I see people swear by them but I keep hesitating to buy one.
