Visited a museum in Chicago last weekend and their AI exhibit felt like a tech demo more than actual education

They had this robot that could paint but it just kept doing the same flower over and over again, like what's the point of that? Has anyone else seen an AI demo that was just straight up disappointing?

I saw that same exhibit last year, and the "paint the same flower" robot was the most talked-about thing there for all the wrong reasons. It felt like they spent all their budget on the hardware and forgot to give the software anything interesting to do. Museums should show what AI can actually accomplish, not just trot out a fancy party trick that gets boring after thirty seconds.

$20,000 for a robot that just draws the same flower? Thats wild. @verab28 hit it spot on, the hardware was probably the whole budget. I remember watching that thing for a solid minute hoping it would try something else, but nope just another tiny petal. Its like they slapped a tablet on a robot arm and called it a day.
