That moment an AI art tool showed me what my old photos were missing

I was at a coffee shop last Thursday talking to a friend who uses AI photo editing. She opened an old blurry picture of my grandmother from 1985 and ran it through a restoration tool. It fixed the color and sharpness but also added details that weren't there, like a tree branch that must have been behind the camera. It made me wonder how much we're okay with AI filling in gaps from real memories. Has anyone else dealt with the line between helping a photo and changing what was really there?

Yeah I had that same weird feeling when an AI tool added a whole cloud to a photo of my dad that wasn't there lmao

Three years ago Google Photos tagged my dog as a "mountain" and gave me a notification about alpine scenery. That cloud thing doesn't surprise me, these tools just guess and fill in blanks. The weirdest part is how convincing it looks at first glance. Makes you wonder what else they've quietly added or removed.
