My friend's kid in Denver showed me a drawing his AI buddy made.
He's eight, and he just said 'it helps me think better' while pointing at a weird robot cat picture. The app was some free drawing tool that adds AI suggestions. How do we even start teaching kids about this stuff without it getting weird?

Saw a teacher talk about treating AI like a calculator for creativity. The key is explaining it's a tool, not a friend. That keeps it from getting too strange for them.

Tbh how do you even explain that boundary to a 7 year old without them thinking it's just a boring calculator with extra steps?

My friend's kid started calling their AI buddy "Sparky" and got upset when it wouldn't play games. @the_kelly is right about making the tool-not-a-friend rule clear from the start. It saves a lot of confused feelings later on.
