That one guy on here told me to try negative prompts and it fixed my weird hand problem

I was messing around with Stable Diffusion last week and kept getting these freaky six-fingered hands on my character portraits. Someone named PixelPunch42 said to just add 'bad hands, extra fingers' to the negative prompt box. I figured it was too simple to work but gave it a shot anyway. First generation after that came out with normal hands for once! I spent like 3 hours before that adjusting settings and weights and nothing helped. Now I throw that negative prompt on almost everything and it saves me so much time. Has anyone else had a random tip from this forum actually fix a huge pain point for them?

Is it really that big of a deal though? I mean yeah extra fingers look weird but it's not like the prompt is doing anything fancy. You could also just keep hitting generate until you get lucky. Or fix the hands in photoshop in like 30 seconds. People act like negative prompts are some kind of magic fix when really it's just a dumb filter that stops the AI from drawing the same mistake over and over. Half the time it doesn't even work if your main prompt has "hands" anywhere near it.

Oh man, I feel this so hard... I spent like two hours the other day trying to get an AI to draw a simple hand holding a coffee cup and it kept giving the poor thing 7 fingers. I finally just gave up and used my own hand as a reference to paint over it in Photoshop. Guess my painting skills are still better than the AI's hand skills, which is saying something because I can barely draw a stick figure without it looking sad.
