My uncle said AI art was just fancy clip art. I made a series based on old family photos.

My brother was the same until I did something like ivan211, used his kid's drawings. Totally flipped his view.

Oh, that's the best feeling. I've found the trick is to make it personal, just like you did. When my dad called it "computer junk," I fed an old recipe card in his mom's handwriting into a model. It generated a whole still life of her kitchen. He got quiet, then asked how to save it as his phone background. That personal hook changes everything.
