My friend called my AI-generated portrait 'soulless' last week

I used to just type 'portrait of a person' into the generator, but now I spend an hour on the prompt to describe a specific mood and lighting. Has anyone else had to defend the work that goes into a prompt?

But what's the real work if not making the choices? The machine just follows the plan.

Spend an hour on a prompt all you want, but you are still just typing words for a machine. Your friend is right about the result. The real work is in the hand and eye of a human artist making choices, not in describing choices for a program to mimic. No amount of clever wording changes that basic fact. Calling it your "work" is a stretch when the AI does the actual making.
