My art teacher in Portland made us pick between AI and paint for a final project

I had to choose between using Midjourney or doing a traditional acrylic painting. I went with the AI because I thought it would be easier, but it felt empty when I just typed prompts. My teacher said the piece lacked 'intention' and gave me a B. Has anyone else felt like their AI art was missing something personal?

Yeah, the trick is to use AI like another tool, not the whole process. I'd do a rough sketch first, then use that to guide your prompts. Makes it feel more like your own work.

How do you even get the AI to listen to your sketch sometimes? I'll upload a drawing and it still gives me something totally off the rails. @the_val is right about it being a tool, but man, it feels like you have to fight with it to get it to follow your lead.

Isn't the whole point of a sketch to guide the work? If you're just fighting the AI to copy it, maybe you should just finish the drawing yourself. That way the final piece is actually yours from start to finish.
