Just realized I've been using the term 'AI art' like it means one thing, and a 20 minute scroll through this sub finally showed me why that's wrong
Turns out I was lumping a guy typing 'cyberpunk city, 4k, trending on ArtStation' into the same box as someone spending 6 hours in Photoshop fixing hands and reworking the lighting, and honestly I don't know which side I was even arguing for anymore.

But here's the thing, none of that changes what the image actually is at the end. A guy typing prompts and someone editing for 6 hours both end up with a file that a computer generated the base of, so the 6 hours thing feels like a cope to me. People act like adding elbow grease makes it a different category when really it's just different amounts of the same thing. And if we start saying effort is what makes art real, then a dude who spends 40 hours on a paint by numbers is suddenly Picasso. The line you're looking for doesn't really exist, you just found one group that works harder and decided they're on your side now.
