I tried to make a picture of my old dog with AI and it felt wrong

I used a popular image generator to make a picture of my childhood dog, a golden retriever named Buddy. The tool made a perfect, shiny picture, but it felt empty and made me sad. I realized the real art was in my messy, old photos where I could remember the day we took them. Has anyone else felt this way when using AI for something personal?

Yeah, that "perfect, shiny picture" feeling is the whole problem. It's like getting a generic birthday card when you wanted a note in your friend's handwriting. The mess is what makes it real.

Right @the_amy, that's why my feed is just pictures of my half dead houseplants. The polished stuff feels like a corporate ad. Give me the weird, real mess any day.

Ugh I mean idk if this is really that deep of a thing. Like sure the AI picture isn't the same as a real photo but it's not like it's some kind of betrayal of your dog's memory or whatever. It's just a different tool for making pictures. If you don't like it don't use it but acting like it's somehow disrespectful is a bit much. I mean maybe it's just me but I feel like people get way too attached to the idea of "real" versus "fake" art these days. The old photos still exist you still have those memories the AI thing is just an extra thing nobody is forcing you to throw away your real stuff.
