I finally saw the problem with my AI art after a friend's simple question

For months, I was making these super complex AI pictures, like a castle made of gears floating in a storm. I was proud of them. Then last week, my friend Sam saw one and just asked, 'What's it about?' I had no real answer. I realized I was just typing fancy words to get a cool image, not trying to say anything. The art felt empty. Now I'm trying to start with a clear idea, like 'loneliness in a crowd,' and work from there. Has anyone else had that click where they moved past just making a pretty picture?

My buddy Mike spent a year making these perfect 3D renders of vintage cars. He showed me one and I just asked who drove it. He got real quiet and said that question broke his whole process. Now he builds a character first, then the car they'd own.

That's a really good point from your buddy Mike, @david821. I had the same kind of thing happen when I was just drawing cool looking swords. Someone asked what kind of person would carry it and why. Totally changed how I do it. Now I sketch out the warrior or the king first, and the weapon comes from their story. It makes the final piece feel real, not just a shiny object. The backstory gives it weight.
