I asked an AI to make a picture of a sad robot in a rainy city

I typed that exact prompt into a free tool called NightCafe last week. Instead of a robot, it gave me a blurry photo of a wet streetlight that looked like a real picture. It felt like the AI missed the point but made something cool by accident. So is it art if the machine didn't even try to follow my idea? What's the weirdest thing an AI has made for you?

See I actually kind of disagree with you there. When I asked for a sad robot in a rainy city and got a blurry streetlight, sure it looked cool, but it felt hollow to me. Like looking at a painting where someone just spilled paint and it happened to look like something. The magic for me is when the AI does something unexpected but still kind of gets the assignment, you know? For example I asked for a dog wearing a suit and got this really weird creature that was half human half dog in a suit jacket. That was actually interesting because it tried but messed up in a way that made me think about what makes a dog a dog. Just missing the mark completely feels like random noise, not art.

Honestly, @ninas70, I'd call that a happy accident, not a fail.

Oh man, that happens to me all the time. I once asked for a cat wearing a tiny crown sitting on a throne and got a weird melted candle that sort of looked like a lion. It was kind of beautiful but also a total fail. I figure if the result makes you stop and look, it counts as something, even if the AI totally ignored you. The weirdest for me was asking for a birthday cake and getting a glowing pink cube floating in a dark room.
