Heard a gallery owner in Denver call AI prints 'decor' and I cannot stop chewing on it
I was at a small art walk on Santa Fe Drive last weekend and ducked into a gallery to get out of the cold. The owner was talking to a customer about a textured abstract piece, and she said something like, 'that is decor, not art, it does not have a hand behind it.' I am pretty sure she was referring to AI generated prints, and it made me wonder where the line actually sits. I make AI images myself and I like some of them, but I also get why a painter would bristle at a machine version of their craft. Does intent from the creator matter more than the process, or is the process the whole point?
