Went back to the old cannery in Astoria at low tide and my boots almost stayed there
I walked the mudflat behind the old cannery in Astoria last Saturday because the pilings looked reachable at low tide, and about 20 feet out I sank past my knee in what looked like solid ground. Took my brother and a tow strap from his truck to get me out, and I lost a boot to the suction. Check the tide chart twice and never trust gray-brown flats near old piers, they hide sinkholes from rotted pilings. Anyone else almost lose gear that way, or is it just me not reading the mud right?
Losing a boot to that mud is a whole other level of rough, glad your brother was there with the truck. Sunk up to my shin in a flat near a busted pier once and now I just poke ahead with a stick before every step.
