Update: I ignored the 'no flash inside' rule at the old Danvers State Hospital and my shots came out like garbage
My buddy Dave told me years ago that shooting abandoned asylums with a flash just bounces off peeling paint and kills all the mood, and I finally learned he was right the hard way last month at a mill in Fall River, Massachusetts. I popped the flash for 14 frames in a dark stairwell because I thought my camera could not handle the low light, and every single shot looks flat and harsh with blown out walls. The 5 shots where I just cranked the ISO to 3200 and braced against a railing came out moody and sharp. What are you all using for dim hallways when a tripod is not an option?
