TIL that old abandoned asylum I hiked to last weekend had a basement nobody warned me about

I wasted $60 on new boots and 3 hours of hiking time to explore what I thought was a cool abandoned hospital, only to find the whole lower level was flooded with waist-deep black water and reeked like a dead animal, has anyone else driven miles for a spot that turned out to be a total bust?

Did you check online first? I read somewhere that places like that fill up with groundwater.

Ha yeah that makes sense. My buddy had a spot like that near his cabin, filled with rain and melted snow by spring. Ended up being a mosquito factory more than anything useful.
