The parking garage staircase that looked fine from outside was totally different inside
Figured out that checking the roof access door first saves a whole trip, found a 1980s janitor closet full of old records in a Detroit garage last month. Anyone else got a trick for spotting spots that are actually photo-worthy from the street?

That trick with the roof access is a good one. I always look for the stairwell windows before I even go inside, the ones that are dirty or painted over usually mean the interior is just as dead. A janitor closet full of records is a lucky find though, makes me think about checking basement doors too, since those are usually unlocked and nobody bothers to look. Once you start treating the whole building like a puzzle, you can usually guess which floors have anything worth shooting from the street.
