The one tip from a random guy on a hiking forum that actually saved my photos

Some dude on a backpacking forum told me to always use a polarizing filter for shooting abandoned buildings in the woods, and I brushed it off for like a year. Finally tried it last month at an old logging camp in Oregon and the difference in cutting glare off wet wood and glass was HUGE. Anyone else get advice from total strangers that actually worked out better than what you learned from more serious sources?

Man, it's wild how the most random advice from someone you've never met can totally change your approach... I picked up a tip from a guy on a photography subreddit about shooting in the fog and it made my forest shots look completely different. Makes you wonder how many other little tricks are out there that nobody famous or certified ever mentions.

Totally agree with you on that fog tip. I had a similar thing happen with a comment on a hiking forum about shooting in the rain. Some guy said to put a clear shower cap over the lens and cut a hole for the glass, and it let me get those moody, wet forest shots without destroying my gear. It's funny how those little hacks from random strangers end up being the most useful stuff, right?
