The comment that made me stop using big flash for abandoned buildings
Someone on my last post said 'your shots look like you're hunting deer, not documenting history.' They were right. I was running a Canon 430EX II on full blast for years and washing out all the texture. Switched to a small LED panel I got for $40 and the difference in the old mill I hit up near Lowell was night and day. Anyone else have to unlearn bad habits from other types of photography?

Ha yeah the deer hunting thing hits different once you see it. What nobody talks about is how big flashes ruin the mood of abandoned places totally. LEDs let you control where the light falls so you can show the decay instead of just blasting it away.

Deer hunting. Ha. That's actually a great way to put it. That LED panel swap sounds like a game changer.
