Someone told me my abandoned church photos were boring without a person in the frame, and now I can't stop thinking about it
I shot a church outside Allentown, PA last month with great light and a broken organ, and a guy commented that my shots felt dead because no human scale showed how big the place was. But the other half of the group jumped in and argued that putting a person in an abandoned spot ruins the mood and makes it look like a cheap Urbex YouTube thumbnail. I tried a reshoot with my buddy standing in the doorway and honestly the wide shot felt more powerful, but the close-ups of the pews felt worse with him in them. So now I'm stuck, do you shoot empty rooms or do you bring a friend along for scale, and which one actually gets more love from this group?
