PSA: Found a grain silo in central Kansas that went from full color to total rust in about 8 years
Drove past this old co-op elevator outside Hutchinson, Kansas last weekend and had to pull over. I actually shot the same silo back in 2016 when it was still painted that faded silver and had a working auger on the side, and now the whole thing is basically orange. Talked to a guy at the gas station who said the co-op shut it down in 2017 after they built a bigger one 12 miles east, and nobody has touched it since. What got me was how fast it went, because you could still read the old "CO-OP" lettering in my 2016 shot and now it is completely gone under rust and vines. The concrete base is starting to crack too, which surprised me since I figured concrete would outlast the metal. I posted a side by side on my page and a few people said the same thing happens to every small elevator once the railroad stops running to it. If anyone else has shot a place twice years apart, what was the thing that decayed way faster than you expected?

Did you shoot it in the same season both times? I did a double take on an old grain mill in my town and the rust looked way worse in my later shot just because I took it after a wet spring instead of a dry fall.
